|BimmerLuv||Not sure if the 2 series diesel will be necessarily competing with its own 328d but first off we just have to think how the pricing will be like to even determine anything. Audi would be more likely the competitor in the diesel group.|

Might in BMW's best interest to not bring a 2series diesel to not kick themselves in the arse, unless they're willing to take the hit and be more diverse.

i doubt the 2 series diesel will be able to compete with it's own 3 series diesel.
apparently the 2014 328d price can start as low as just under $40k, depending how the 2 series diesel is priced, it could be a competitor. If within a $5k price difference it could be a "competitor"

But as the new Audi A3 sedan becomes available, there's a good chance a version of the 2.0L inline four diesel engine can make it to the 2014 A3 sedan.

I would consider the Audi A3 TDI to be a direct competitor. It carries a 2.0L I4 turbo-diesel. It has a horsepower of 140 hp @ 4,000 rpm and torque is 236 lb-ft from 1,750 to 2,500 rpm. It retails for $37k, which I think is what the 2 Series diesel will probably retail for.
The 2 Series diesel would also compete with its own 3 Series diesel.

BMW 2 Series Diesel Competitors
BMW will be bringing a diesel model BMW 3 series to the U.S. and chances are that drivetrain will be used in the 2 series. It hasn't be confirmed but there are rumors of a U.S. model 2 series diesel.
If the 2 series diesel does make it to the U.S. , what competition will it have?
