With 2014 finally coming to an end, we can now officially hand out the award for most luxury car sales in the US. It was a close race right up to the end but BMW was able to outpace its rival Mercedes-Benz to take the top spot in 2014. BMW is no doubt happy about that, given that last year Mercedes-Benz was able to take the top spot.
The BMW 3-Series, 4-Series and X5 had quite strong demand in 2014. Overall, BMW sold 339,738 vehicles in 2014, which is an improvement of 9.8% over 2013's sales. 2014 was the most successful year ever for BMW.
Mercedes-Benz on the other hand also set a sales record in 2014. It sold 330,391 vehicles last year, which was approximately 9,000 vehicle short of BMW's total sales. Mercedes-Benz' sales were up 5.7% for the year, with much of that strength coming from sales of the C-Class and M-Class.
In third and fourth place were Lexus and Audi respectively. Lexus, which held the top spot in the US luxury market for more than a decade, saw a 13.6% increase in sales this year with a total of 311,389 vehicles sold. Audi saw steady progress this year with a 15.2% increase in sales and a record 182,011 vehicles sold.
Mercedes-Benz and Lexus are hot on BMW's heels. Do you think BMW will be overcome by its rivals in 2015, or will it be able to keep the top spot?
