BMW M2/2M vs Mercedes CLA 45 AMG

Why wait for the BMW 2M when you can get a CLA 45 AMG at the end of this year?

Well if the M2 is anything like the 1M it'll be a performance monster. But we aren't too sure what engine will be in the M2 so let's wait and see how it will unfold.

Another thing to consider. The CLA 45 might be cheaper for price.

Might as well wait for the M2 so we can compare both and see which compact performance vehicle is really the best and gets you the best bang for the buck.

a downside is that the BMW 2 series gran coupe won't be out till 2015, and there's no telling when the M2 gran coupe will come out, which is a direct competitor to the CLA 45 AMG, both are sedan's

mercedes has a good head start in this segment with the CLA45 AMG.

the rest of the competitors are quite far from getting their performance trim versions out. BMW still hasn't dropped any info on M2 availability, and Audi is just getting the A3 sedan all the attention it needs without much sign of a S3 sedan. Can't wait for all performance models to come out: Audi S3, BMW M2 and Mercedes CLA45 AMG!

The S3 sedan will arrive eventually. In the meantime the S4 sedan is still a great option. Just a bit larger than the CLA I believe.

Well the M2 hasn't even been confirmed yet. We all pretty much assumed it is in development. It could be years till we even see one. CLA will have a huge head start.

I would say a M2 grand coupe is very likely. BMW has a M for almost every car.

The 1M was a spectacle - why wouldn't they do a M2? or 2M?

I wonder what it's even going to be called?

The bmw 1m was a magnificent car. it was so balanced for what it is and for one it was freakin a powerhouse for such a small car. I just know that the 2 series will be along the same lines of that.

It is basically the new 1M.

Not like they are going to bring back the 1M.

bmw cannot afford to make the 1 series successor, the 2 series, any slower. the bmw 2-series has to be better in every way not because it's the successor but because it has some crazy competition. BMW is already second guessing their 2-series model line up and waiting to see how the competition does before selling their 2-series vehicles in specific markets.

Since the 1M was such a successful machine I wouldn't expect any less for the 2M or M2. I think BMW is confident enough that the CLA shouldn't be too much of a competition for performance but in terms of price the CLA has the 2 series beat.
