BMW 2 Series Diesel Competitors

BMW will be bringing a diesel model BMW 3 series to the U.S. and chances are that drivetrain will be used in the 2 series. It hasn't be confirmed but there are rumors of a U.S. model 2 series diesel.

If the 2 series diesel does make it to the U.S. , what competition will it have?

I would consider the Audi A3 TDI to be a direct competitor. It carries a 2.0L I4 turbo-diesel. It has a horsepower of 140 hp @ 4,000 rpm and torque is 236 lb-ft from 1,750 to 2,500 rpm. It retails for $37k, which I think is what the 2 Series diesel will probably retail for.

The 2 Series diesel would also compete with its own 3 Series diesel.

Good point about that Audi A3 TDI, at the moment it is a hatchback and probably not something someone interested in a 2 series would look at, since the bmw 2 series only comes as a coupe and sedan so far.

But as the new Audi A3 sedan becomes available, there's a good chance a version of the 2.0L inline four diesel engine can make it to the 2014 A3 sedan.

i doubt the 2 series diesel will be able to compete with it's own 3 series diesel.

apparently the 2014 328d price can start as low as just under $40k, depending how the 2 series diesel is priced, it could be a competitor. If within a $5k price difference it could be a "competitor"

BMW 2 series diesel, 228d, or what ever it ends up being called should offer more than the 328d when you look at price. I bet a 2 series diesel fully loaded with all the things you can possibly have will be as much as a BMW 328d with very few add-on's.

Might in BMW's best interest to not bring a 2series diesel to not kick themselves in the arse, unless they're willing to take the hit and be more diverse.

Not sure if the 2 series diesel will be necessarily competing with its own 328d but first off we just have to think how the pricing will be like to even determine anything. Audi would be more likely the competitor in the diesel group.

This might depend on what BMW has up the sleeve for the next couple years. They have eyes and ears out to see what the competitors are doing. Just look at the Mercedes CLA you think it was an accident that bmw create a vehicle in the same segment. Except the CLA is more of a 4 door with coupe styling.
