2-Series vs. E36

I think the M235i is the closest we will ever get to a new E36 M3. Check this out:

2 Series Coupe
Length: 4,432 mm
Width: 1,774 mm
Wheelbase: 2,690 mm
Height: 1,418 mm

E36 coupe (per wikipedia):
Length: 4,432 mm
Width: 1,699 mm
Wheelbase: 2,700 mm
Height: 1,367 mm

Pretty **** close!

Anyone know how the weight compares?

So what would you rather have?

a 235i or a MINT E36 with under 10k miles on it?

Considering that the 235i will have 75 more HP, I would take that. The more appropriate comparison would be the new 228i which will have about the same power as the e36 m3 with 240hp. I bet the 228i with M suspension package and some aftermarket tuning would still beat out the older m3.

Very true but sometimes just looking at the numbers will give you the answer. Unless there are some substantial gearing differences, I'm practically cert the 235i will eclipse the older M3.

I think they mentioned somewhere the M235i should be faster than the E92 M3.
